Hello, I’m Sarah

Walking is the place where ideas happen

Over the years, I’ve discovered that every walk we take can be an opportunity for reflection, creativity and as inspiration for writing.

So I founded The Writer’s Walk to show you how going for a walk can help you find answers, spark ideas and fuel creativity.

In each edition, I share an approach to taking a walk – I call it our theme – and pair it with a simple writing prompt. The themes span a range of topics, from walking alone, with others or with a dog, to discovering new places and rediscovering the ones you thought you knew well.

I chat with other walkers, writers and creatives and share their stories through interviews. And I also facilitate in-person walking and writing workshops and encourage my clients to take our meetings for a walk whenever I can.

How to start

You don’t need to be much of a walker. Just 10 minutes a day is a good way to begin. And you don’t need to be a writer. Simply giving yourself 5 minutes to have a go is a good start. All you need is a notepad and pen, your imagination and the courage to put your best foot forward.

About me

I’m Sarah Farley – a writer and walker born in Sydney, raised in Yorkshire and now living in That London.

By day I work as a brand writer, content designer and trainer, helping brands to find the right words for whatever they need to say. In my free time I write creatively – short stories, creative collaborations and even the occasional poem. Walking has always connected these types of writing.

How to support my work

The Writer’s Walk is free to read but not free to produce. I spend a lot of time planning the walks and writing prompts and putting each edition and interview together. I don’t get paid but I do have to find the money for things like renewing the website domain and promotion. I’ve considered switching on paid subscriptions to help cover these costs, but I don’t want to put everything behind a paywall.

So I’ve set up a ‘tip jar’ on Ko-fi instead. If you enjoy the posts, please consider making a donation to help me cover the costs and keep the lights on at The Writer’s Walk.

Liking, commenting on and sharing posts is also a great way to show your support. Thank you.

A note on photos, images and copyright
I personally took almost every photo and image that I use on The Writer’s Walk, so the copyright belongs to me, as does the copyright of my written work on here. But on the very rare occasions where I use images by other people I get their permission, credit them as the photographer, producer, artist or author of the work and, where possible, link to their website or social media profiles. If you’d ever like to use one of my images – which is doubtful as I’m not the best photographer in the world – please get in touch and ask me. I’ll very likely say yes, but will ask to be credited as the photographer and for a link to be included back to this site. Thanks!
